It's A Demo, Of Course – aufgenommen im Mai/Juni 1998 in Neubeckum/Westfalen

This is my first album, it became 25 years old in 2023. It was recorded with a four-track cassette recorder (Yamaha MT120), a drum machine (Boss Dr. Rhythm DR-550 MKII), two amplifiers (Fender Twin Reverb and Roland AG20GE), an acoustic guitar (Ibanez LS-500 BK) and an electric guitar (Hohner Professional, ST Special) used mostly as bass, also some harps. The arrangements were made during the recordings, I play the instruments myself. Olaf Straube in Aachen denoised and equalized the recordings. The photos were taken by Kora Jünger. I had made only 25 numbered copies of the CD, of which only one is left.

PATCH IT ALL UP ist Pop. CHANGE IT war damals ebenfalls ganz neu. Er hat eine spezielle Atmosphäre und Rhythmuswechsel. THE TIMES ARE A-CHANGING ist kein Song, sondern eine kleine Einlage nach getaner Arbeit.

The Songs

It is a selection of the pieces available at that time. I had just written MISTER SO-AND-SO, a groovy socio-critical piece. PRISON CELL is black humor: first it's funny, then it gets psycho. Goes down well, though, I think. Why I was scared when I wrote the SCARED BLUES I can't say anymore, but apart from the lyrics this kind of blues is typical for me. EASY LISTENING is a nice little song. SHOWTIME is blues-based and has a fast rythm. The catchy tune BABY DOLL should also work well a cappella. WAR is a heavy song, one of my first. PATCH IT ALL UP is pop. CHANGE IT was also brand new at the time. It has a special atmosphere and rhythm changes. THE TIMES ARE A-CHANGING is not a song, but a little afterglow.

1. MISTER SO-AND-SO
Song # 21, H-Dur

(/: So so so, Mister So, so so so, Mister So :/)
1. We will go out in the morning, put on some clothes and run.
We will jump and shout in the morning, we hear no warning from no one.
And we'll be right on our way, like a song.

2. Mister So-and-So, can you hear us, we've almost reached your land.
Say hello, now that you're near us, let us shake your hand.
And we will dance around the fire while we can.
Oh Mister So-and-So___ I saw you on the evening show, and I crossed your mind.
for the first time now, I didn't know what I'd find.
When I listened to your show, where the people want to go, I realized
that you're cut in the middle, and you're cold outside.
And every road you walk is green, and every word you speak is clean.
Oh Mister So-and-So, who shall I want to be?

3. You know how to stay on the chocolade side of a perfect day.
You allow what's outside the circle and keep the bugs away.
And you seem so lost and lonesome when you lie.
Oh Mister So-and-so, you who once were small and low, you had to fight,
and a lot of them died, I saw a lot of them go.
Now you're getting even more, you collect it on your shore, and it feels fine,
and you speak the language that opens the door.
At night you sleep right on the keys, and your days are filled with ease.
Oh Mister So-and-So, who shall I want to be?
And every ship you sail is safe, and every step is brave.
(/: So so so, Mister So, so so so, Mister So :/)
And every road you walk is green ...

2. ONE WEEK WITH YOU IN A PRISON CELL
Anis 1995, Song # 17, G-Dur, Capo 7

1. If I had one week with you in a prison cell,
I would change your mind, I would change your mind.
If I had one week with you in a prison cell I would change your mind.

2. If I had two days with you in an elevator, nowhere to sleep, no one to cater.
Just two little days in an elevator, I would change your mind.
You have seen the world and never met those places,
I go 'round and sweat because you missed such cases.
One week with you in a prison cell, I would change your mind.

3. Three hours with you in an air-raid shelter, bombs are falling, helter skelter.
Three hours with you in an air-raid shelter, and you would know I'm true.
I have spread my charms on many girls before, but
when you're in my arms, I'll leave them to the poor.
One week with you in a prison cell, that would be swell.

4. (Instrumental)

5. Four minutes with you and my kitchen knife,
when you do your hair, you look, oh so fine,
box of matches in five seconds time, you'll be on my side.
   Oh___bom-ba-bom-bom-bom
   oh___bom-ba-bom-bom-yeah-yeah-yeah-yeah.
Let's take it from the top:

6. One week with you in a prison cell,
I would change your mind, I would ring the bell.
If I had one week with you in a prison cell, perhaps I'd change your mind.

3. SCARED BLUES
Anis 1993, Song # 6, F-Dur, Capo 1

1. I found a good woman out in the world, but I wouldn't treat her right.
I would trouble her from far away in her days and in her nights.
Then one day she was gone and I had no home.
I took some sweet inspiration for my brain and some music for my soul.
Hey hey hey, where do you sleep tonight?
You could be my mama, you could be my child.
I was scared, baby, and I scared you.
I was so scared, fuckin' scared, I was scared, and I scared you.
Hey hey hey, where do you sleep tonight?
You could be my mama, you could be my child.

2. But one day I'll be up, I'll be up and nothing gets me down again,
cause it was good, it was good, it was good to be your friend ...
... be your friend now, have a friend.
I was so scared, baby, and I scared you.
I was so scared, fuckin' scared, I was scared, and I scared you.

4. EASY LISTENING
Anis 1993, Song # 7, C-Dur

1. This is a new little, do little song I do
and you may like it, too, 'cause it's for you.

2. I have to tell you, woman, I can't sleep at night
without you by my side you know that I ...

3. I could see it in your eyes,
now I realize that you're up and away.

4. I could see it in your eyes,
now I realizethat you're up and away.

5. You'll hear my melody in your morning hours
and in your evening hours, and maybe you'll smile.
Boo boo boo and you know that I like it, too.

5. SHOWTIME
Anis 1995, Song # 15, C-Dur

1. (Instrumental)

2. Brush your teeth, and smile, and greet the day,
and close the door behind you when you pray;
someone might always look your way and it's showtime.

3. Well, I was living long before I's born,
cause I have seen the sun before the dawn.
Into this world I've come it was showtime.

Once I was innocently laughing when
I met a friend to cross the land and the sky with.
I did not know the names, the mental frames,
taboos and shame and social games that say:
   Raise your head, it's showtime!

4. (Instrumental)

Once I was innocently laughing when
I met a friend to cross the land and the sky with.
I did not know the names, the mental frames,
taboos and shame and social games that say:
   Raise your head it's showtime!

5. And when I give I need someone to take,
and when I need I need no piece of cake,
cause someone's gotta sweep the stake and it's showtime.
   Raise your head it's showtime.
   Raise your head it's showtime.

6. BABY DOLL
Anis 1997, Song # 19, B-Dur, Capo 3

1. Will you do the things to me you used to do,
darling, one more time, it was so fine.
Sure you live your life right independently,
it's just the thought of you that drives me out of my mind.

CHORUS:
(I sing:) Baby Doll, my Baby Doll, I'm craving for your love
ever since you've been gone away,
but how was I to know Oh Baby Doll

2. When your train stopped in my train you hooked me, baby,
there was nothing in this world that I could do.
And anywhere the wind blows I will look to find someone kind
and the like of you would still attract me, too.

CHORUS
Again you stand at the crossroads
and no one shows the way.
You raise your head up to the sky
and all you do is pray.

CHORUS
3. = 1. Will you do....

CHORUS
... oh Baby Doll

7. WAR
Anis 1994, Song # 13, F-Dur, Capo 1

1. I used to travel on my own, lost my habits on the way.
Now I'm through with dumping the stones I miss the touch of glory days.
There must be something, cause I am making war, yeah war.

2. Undoubted relief I felt from my heart down to my toes.
I count the weapons into the belt, the fire's there where the candle glows.
There must be something, cause I am making war, yeah war.

3. (Solo)

There must be something, cause I am making war, yeah war.
My head is a wise man, but my heart is sore.
My head is a wise man, but my heart is sore.

There must be something, cause I am making war, yeah war.
My head is a wise man, but my heart is sore.
My head is a wise man, but my heart ___war.

8. PATCH IT ALL UP
Anis 1994, Song # 12, D-Dur

1. Here's the punch-line I do still like sunshine I know that we can patch it all up.
And what's better in even in stormy wheather I believe we can make it to the top.
Hey woman, remember the omen of the 7t of July.
There is reason to look out for the season when lovers say we'll patch it all up.

CHORUS:
/: (Baby) Patch it all up, hey baby, patch it up and don't let me down. :/
then you are mine all mine, then you are mine.

2. I'll send you roses in overdoses, make you rock around the clock
Ask me 'bout that fever that drives me wild to see you
and let me assure you it's hot.
My mind goes riot every time I remember our last goodbye.
Move a little closer and hang a little looser, we start off and nevermore stop.

/: (Baby) Patch it all up, hey baby, patch it up and don't let me down. :/
then you are mine all mine, then you are mine.

/: (Baby) Patch it all up, hey baby, patch it up and don't let me down. :/
/: (Baby) Patch it all up, hey baby, patch it up and don't let me down. :/
then you are mine all mine, then you are mine.

(The toaster line is the worst I ever wrote. Oh, how could I ... if ever I record it again I'll change that ...)

9. CHANGE IT
Anis 1998, Song # 23, D-Dur, Capo 5

We will never forget you at all ...

1. Coming through the front door is the man who has no faith,
he's got ears to listen, but no lips to speak.
Working on the top floor he gets down most every night,
pushing thoughts and looking sleek.

He is the man who keeps things running 'bout the best that he can,
but no one ever heard him humming when the new day began.
(And it makes me wanna jump, and it makes me wanna …)
Change it, change, change it now!

2. Grinning through the window is the woman in a tree,
she's got two big shining eyes, but she can't see.
Gave up her resistance, doesn't know to serve the tea,
now she thinks she's everything and free.

Her conscience tells her that the veil in the East should be banned,
but when she fears that she could fail she puts on every mask she can.
(And it makes me wanna jump, and I nearly try to …)

Change it, change, change it now!
Change it, change, change it now!
Change it, change, change it now!
We will always change, always change, at all.
