News from the "Before their Diaspora" edition. Due to the encouraging amount of feedback and people who are happy with the series I am producing five more pictures: Olives, Easter in Jerusalem, Water Mill, Into the Sea, and Nahr al-Barid. This makes a total of 12 pictures. I hope to have another exhibition with them. You can watch the pictures online or purchase copies. The originals are for sale, too, ask anis at anis-online.de. The next project of this kind is called "Capital of Culture 2008" and will consist of 14 Liverpool pictures. (Deutsch) Mainz, Mai 2008: Neues von der "Before their Diaspora"-Serie. Wegen des ermutigenden Feedbacks und der Anzahl der Leute, denen diese Bilder gefallen, mache ich fünf weitere Bilder: Olives, Easter in Jerusalem, Water Mill, Into the Sea und Nahr al-Barid. Damit sind es zwölf Bilder im Ganzen. Ich hoffe, dass es eine weitere Ausstellung damit gibt. Sie können sich die Bilder online anschauen oder Kopien erwerben. (English:) Mainz, August 2007: In my studio seven drawings of Palestine are coming into being. They trace back to historic photos from the book "Before their Diaspora. A Photographic History of the Palestinians 1876 - 1948" (Institute for Palestine Studies, Washington D.C. 1984) by the renowned Palestinian scholar Walid Khalidi. (Deutsch:) Mainz, August 2007: In meiner Werkstatt entstehen sieben Zeichnungen von Palästina. Sie gehen zurück auf historische Fotos aus dem Buch "Before their Diaspora. A Photographic History of the Palestinians 1876 - 1948" (Institute for Palestine Studies, Washington D.C. 1984) des renommierten palästinensischen Gelehrten Walid Khalidi. |

For some time the Jerusalem photo on page 149 had been on my mind and I wondered what it would look like if I reproduced this view with fresh and shining colors. All those beautiful photos seemed so far away in history. There must be a way to bring some life back into them, I thought. I chose a double sheet size (Din A 3) paper and finished the drawing within a week. Here is the internet version: www.anis-online.de/2/bilder/anis/viadolorosa.htm. Seit einiger Zeit ging mir das Jerusalem-Foto von Seite 149 nicht mehr aus dem Kopf und ich fragte mich, wie es wohl aussehen würde, wenn ich diese Ansicht mit frischen und scheinenden Farben reproduzieren würde. All diese schönen Fotos schienen so weit entfernt in der Geschichte zu liegen. Es muss einen Weg geben, sie wieder zum Leben zu erwecken, dachte ich. As I was content with the result I selected six more pictures and prepared the lines, leaving out the colors. Afterwards I started with parts of each of the drawings. Da ich mit dem Ergebnis zufrieden war, wählte ich sechs weitere Bilder und zeichnete als Vorbereitung die Linien ohne die Farben. Danach malte ich Teile in jedem der Bilder aus. |

Around the end of September the pictures will all be finished. Gegen Ende September werden alle Bilder fertig sein. |
